Cookies & Local Storage
MetroDhun uses cookies and browser local storage to make the site work better for you. This Cookies page explains what technologies we use, why we use them, how long they last, and how you can control them. Importantly, MetroDhun does not store your personal playlists or preferences on our servers — they are kept only on your device (for example, in localStorage
).
What are cookies and local storage?
Cookies are small text files saved by your browser to remember information about your visit. Local storage (often accessed via localStorage
) is a browser feature that lets websites store larger amounts of data on your device. Both are stored on your device and retrieved by the browser when you return to the site.
How MetroDhun uses cookies & local storage
- Essential/Functional: Necessary for basic site functions such as maintaining playback state, remembering your chosen language, theme, or player settings, and enabling the UI to behave consistently. Without these, the site may not work correctly.
- Preferences (localStorage): Your playlists, favorites, playback queue, and other personal UI preferences are saved in your browser’s local storage. These items remain on your device only and are not uploaded to our servers.
- Performance & Analytics: We may use cookies or third-party analytics tools to understand general usage patterns (pageviews, playback trends, anonymous device/browser stats). These help us improve the site experience but are anonymous and non-identifying by design.
- Advertising (third-party): To support a free service, MetroDhun may show ads provided by advertising partners. Ad partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. MetroDhun itself does not store or sell personal data for advertising purposes.
Third-party cookies
Some content on MetroDhun (for example, embedded players, analytics, or ads) may set cookies from third-party domains. Those cookies are controlled by a third party and are subject to their privacy policies. We recommend reviewing the privacy information of the relevant third-party provider if you want detailed information about their cookies and controls.
Retention & expiration
Different cookies have different lifetimes. Session cookies typically expire when you close your browser. Persistent cookies and localStorage items remain until you clear them or they are programmatically removed by the site. Playlists and preferences stored in localStorage will remain until you clear browser data or uninstall/clear the PWA (if installed).
What happens if I disable cookies or clear local storage?
If you block cookies or clear local storage, some features may not work as expected. In particular:
- Saved playlists, favorites, and preferences will be lost if localStorage is cleared.
- Playback state and some UI preferences may not persist between visits.
- Some analytics or ad personalization will stop working (which may be desirable for privacy).
How to control or delete cookies & local storage
You can manage cookies and local storage using your browser or device settings. Typically, you can:
- Open browser settings → Privacy & security → Cookies and site data to block or remove cookies.
- Clear site data for MetroDhun to remove localStorage entries (this will delete saved playlists and settings).
- Use private/incognito browsing to avoid saving long-term cookies or localStorage.
PWA & installed app behavior
If you install MetroDhun as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on supported devices, the same localStorage/cookie rules apply. Installing the PWA may give the site additional caching advantages and quicker launches, but your saved data still lives on the device unless you remove it or clear app data.
How do we protect cookie/local data
We recommend keeping your device/browser updated and protected with usual security practices. MetroDhun follows secure coding practices and never intentionally writes sensitive personal data into cookies or local storage. Because the data is stored only on your device, MetroDhun reduces the risk associated with centralized data breaches.
